Family Sign Core Vocabulary
The Family Sign Core Vocabulary library includes over 300 demonstration videos of sign vocabulary that you can include in your everyday communication. For a full list of the vocabulary included, please visit the Index page.
The signs used are from British Sign Language (BSL), however it is important to mention that the Family Sign Vocabulary is not true BSL and when signs are used with English this is Sign Supported English (SSE). BSL is a complex language that does not follow English grammar and does not use spoken English words. BSL is a recognised language and is one of the UK's indigenous languages; others include English, Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Irish Gaelic and Cornish. Where signing follows English word order, this is known as Sign Supported English (SSE).
